What is Teeth Whitening?
Whitening is the process of rehabilitating the teeth colour to its original hue with the chemically applied methods by the experienced dentists.
Office Type Whitening Procedure
The dentist applies the whitening gel and the light source, which activates this gel in about 1 hour within the office environment.
During the application, the gingival is protected with a special barrier material. Then the whitening gel is applied to the teeth and the light source is activated. Lastly, the whitening process is completed in 1 hour with LED light given in three phases of 15 minutes.
House Type Whitening Procedure
It is performed with a special custom tray prepared as patient-specific after the examination and the approval of the dentist. The custom tray which contains a special gel is placed into the mouth before going to sleep, and it stays in the mouth for 6-8 hours. The teeth are whitened by lightening a few hues.
Is it hazardous?
The whitening procedure conducted by a dentist or under the control of a dentist does not have any risk or hazard. However, the whitening processes which are performed beyond dentist control and with different ready-made plaques or drugs for whitening sold in the markets/the pharmacies may be harmful to the teeth and the gingival.
Teeth whitening is a process that helps remove the colouring that occurs in the teeth. There is no harm to tooth and gums, and whitening procedures can be applied to each healthy tooth. There are two different applications in the clinical setting for teeth whitening. They are plasma-light technology performed by the dentist and home whitening methods that the patient can apply at home.
